We are a growing but small company, and the majority of folks we know are small growing companies, too. All too often, small companies have this tendency to “fly by the seat of their pants.” We could once raise our hands and say “Yep, that’s us!”

All About Setting Annual GoalsHere in the first month of 2018, we’d like to recommend that you take a look at your small business and see if you can strengthen your own foundation. We’ll provide you an outline of topics, and we want you to know one thing that we haven’t said much about before:

1. Business Name

Are you satisfied with the name of your business? Does it say what service you are offering or what you are selling? Is it easy to spell and remember? Do you have a lot of branding connected to the name, or if not, would you want to re think the name so you can do some marketing?

2. Future Growth

How do you want your business to look five years from today? How do you want it to grow? Other locations? More employees?

3. Business

When you are asked, can you say in one or two sentences what your business really does and what makes it different from all the other companies who offer the same services? What is your Unique Selling Proposition?

4. Financial Goals

Do you know how much you want to earn this year? If you divide that by 12 months, do you have the support structure in place to achieve it?

5. Weaknesses

What are your weakest links? What are you not doing as well as you might? Will you be willing to plug these holes? Are you competitive in the marketplace? Are you current with technology? Is your industry changing and leaving you behind?

It might serve you well to research Strategic Plans. You’ll learn a lot just doing the research and will be able to implement a few new things into your small business in 2018. Wishing you all the best, and remember.
